When it comes to choosing the right type of sod for your property, there are several factors to consider. Our team can help you choose the right type of sod for your property and provide advice on how to care for it to keep it looking its best.
If you would like to hire us to install sod for your property, we will begin by preparing the soil. This involves removing any existing grass or weeds, and making sure that the soil is loose and well-drained. We will then lay the sod according to the manufacturer’s instructions, making sure to overlap the pieces and create a tight, seamless fit. Finally, we will water the sod thoroughly to help it establish its roots and start growing.
Sod Installation Steps
Step 1: Choosing your Grass Type
Selecting the kind of sod you want in your lawn is probably one of the most enjoyable parts. However, You don’t want to just pick a grass that is appealing to the eye though. You should make sure the grass you select fits the environment and climate you live in and matches the right amount of maintenance and time you want to put into it.
We recommend visiting a Nearby SuperSod location to see their showcase area.
Step 2: Removing your Existing Grass
Removing the old grass is critical to properly installing new sod. It insures we get a fresh start and removes any old weeds in the yard. We start a week before hand killing the old grass with an application of glyphosate grass killer. After the grass has died off we will strip it either with a sod cutter or a tiller. Another reason we till and remove the old grass is to grade and level the ground. This helps us achieve a smoother installation. After removing the debris we can grade and level the lawn to make sure there are no bumps or valleys.
Step 3: Laying the Sod
Before Laying the sod we will spread a thin layer of sand and compost mix. This helps level the ground even further and give the sod the right nutrients to get off to a good start. We will begin laying or rolling out the sod making sure to cut in any curves or edges.
Step 4: Fertilizing and Watering
This is one of the most critical steps for you to do. Freshly laid sod must be watered daily so it doesn’t die. If you have irrigation this should be easy just set it and monitor everything is getting watered. If no irrigation you can use lawn sprinklers and move them where needed. Once you can see the roots entering the ground you can cut back on watering the sod.
