Our Bush Trimming Process
Shrub trimming can be tedious and tiring to do yourself. It has to be done or your shrubs can get out of control and getting them back into shape can take a long time and a lot more work. The main type of trimming on shrubs that we do is the maintenance trim which keep the general shape of the bush under control until it goes dormant.
When a shrub goes dormant you are safe to drastically trim it to a smaller size. With some varieties you can even cut it to the ground and it will start re-growing in the spring. The main types of shrubs we have in North Ga are Boxwoods, Soft touch holly, gardenias, and holly bushes. All of these shrubs are relatively fast growing and trimming them will actually promote new growth. Many times you will see new sprouts form at the top only weeks after trimming. That’s why staying on top of them is so hard.
We always work to keep the area clean of sticks and leaves by laying a tarp down before trimming to catch most of the cuttings. Also, we remove anything left after the clean up will turn brown and blend in or blow away.
Shrub and Tree Trimming Pricing
Estimating tree and bush trimming can be difficult. It is also one of the most dangerous services to have performed on your property. In that case, you should be sure to hire only insured companies. We carry a $2 million policy to cover any damages to your house and also have insurance on all employees in case they get hurt. You don’t want someone hurting themselves and trying to sue you. Here are some guidelines of what you can expect when pricing out your trimming job.
- How tall and how big are your shrubs and trees? This is the single biggest factor when it comes to your quote. Tall equals danger and size takes more time.
- How overgrown are your trees and bushes? The more overgrown the harder it is to shape and make it look good. There is also more cleanup involved as well as disposal of debris.
- Types of Shrubs. Boxwoods take more time to get perfectly straight with right angles. Some types only need minor pruning. Trees are difficult to reach the top and sometimes require special equipment.
The average cost for a one time bush trim is about $250. We occasionally run specials that can save you some $$$$ so please like us on Facebook or follow us on Instagram. We also offer a bi-monthly add on for shrub trimming to our lawn maintenance packages. As for tree trimming, you can expect about $50-100 per tree.

Shrub Trimming Quick Tips to Do It Yourself
- Make sure to trim the areas closest to the house to insure the shrub isn’t touching it. Shrubs or trees touching your house can damage siding and promote moisture.
- Start big then go smaller to bring in the shape. It is always easier to remove more than to add. Covering up your mistakes are easy when you have some wiggle room. Most shrubs only have a couple inches of green leaves on the outside. Try to not cut into that unless you are drastically changing the shape.
- Use shears for making things square and straight. Motorized hedge trimmers and pole trimmers are great but try to finalize the trim with a pair of nice sharp shears. Shears take longer but are easier to control and slice the leaves instead of ripping them. This adds an extra layer of professionalism.
- Use a tarp or drop cloth!!!! It takes more time to trim but the cleanup is super easy. Poor cleanup just ruins the job. We always carry a small tarp and drag it around to catch the clippings.
- Watch out for wasps. If you are allergic to wasp or hornets have someone else do this. There is a very high risk of being stung while trimming your bushes and trees. Wasps love to build nest inside shrubs and yellow jackets are also commonly found in the ground around garden beds. Take precautions and be safe.
